6 Signs Someone Might Not Be Sent from God

Your mind can feel foggy when you aren’t sure if a person you met is sent from God. The Word of God will guide you through the haze. Whether it be a friend or a lover, we wanted to clear the air on this topic and provide a bit of guidance.

1. Their Presence Pushes You Away from God

Have you stopped praying as much since you got in contact with them? Have you felt more distance between you and the Lord? Are you sinning more now that they are in your life? This is a giveaway that this person is not of God, therefore not for you. Anyone who shares your faith should push you to walk with God, not cause you to stumble.

2. They Feel No Conviction

Although we are sinners, you should not like sinning. If you fall into sin, repent immediately! If the person you sinned with shares no remorse or regret, that means they are comfortable in their sin and don’t feel the desire to truly turn to Christ. Those who have God within them will immediately feel a sense of guilt and feel as if they have betrayed the Lord. Back away from those who do not care whether or not they are falling into the hands of the enemy.

3. There Is a Foundation in Lust, Not Love

This is specifically for significant others. No, your sneaky link that sees other people is not the man/woman of God that you were made for. Sex itself is not wrong, but when it is done out of lust rather than a marriage built on love, then it is done wrong. Those who are truly created for you will love you for who you are and for the people you become when you are together. If they are only looking for something temporary that comes with benefits, this is a clear red flag that this person is not from God.

4. You're Not Being Respected

Respect comes in many forms. Whether they are crossing your boundaries, speaking to you in a rude way, not considering your feelings, or even avoiding compromise, these are all ways others can disrespect you and your needs. If even after you communicate that you don’t like the way they are doing something, they continue to do it, this is blatant disrespect to you, as they are aware that what they’re doing is hurting you. Those sent from God would never intentionally hurt you.

5. No Intentions of Marriage

If your significant other does not have a vision of marrying you, they’re not the one for you. This varies of course with age, but in the long run, every relationship should have an end goal of getting married. God wants us to be united under Him with a seal of marriage and blessing, if not, what’s the point of the relationship? Heartbreak? Are they just in it for the benefits and not the commitment? Make sure you and your significant other are on the same page in what you together.

6. Bad Influence

Our parents always told us that who we hang around with is who we will become, and it is absolutely true. If who you’re hanging around with is pushing you to things that you know are wrong, this is clearly someone who isn’t sent from the Lord. God will only lead you to good, and someone who truly loves you and wants you on the right path would lead you to that good, not evil. Don’t feed into the wrongdoings of these people, rather take a step back and evaluate if you truly want to be near someone leading you to sin and the wrong.

If you continue to feel unsure whether someone in your life is sent from God - pray. This is your direct communication to our Lord and He will always provide you with guidance and reassurance. Ask for signs, and when you receive them, do not ignore them. The Lord has created the perfect people for you, so do not waste your time with those sent from the enemy.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
