School – a word that can evoke a range of emotions, from excitement and curiosity to anxiety and apprehension. For some, it's a place of endless possibilities and knowledge, while for others, it might be synonymous with routines and challenges. School life can be a wild ride, but guess what? You don't have to go it alone. Whether you're facing tough exams or navigating the social jungle, staying connected with the higher power can be your secret weapon. In this blog post, we'll explore four simple yet impactful ways to foster this connection throughout your school journey, helping you find moments of tranquility and reflection amidst the academic whirlwind.
1. Put In Effort
Although this is something that should be done even outside of religion, it also plays a part in the eyes of our Father. The biggest part of this is having integrity. God tells us that we shall not lie to one another and always be honest. Cheating on a test or on a homework assignment falls into the category of lying, so don’t do it! You are not only deceiving your teachers, but yourself as well. Be responsible and prepare ahead of time. This again touches on not being lazy. Take the time you need to study or even reach out for help if you’re struggling, but don’t resort to the “easy way out”.
Proverbs 10:9
"Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out."
2. Incorporate God
Taking time to glorify God can help strengthen your relationship with Him. Honoring Him and worshipping Him is an important aspect when you choose to live with Christ. Use your free time to get some light reading of the Bible done. You can use the Bible app and read the verse of the day, or read a chapter of a book. Although as students we can’t spend all of our time at school reading our Bible, we can still make God a part of our day by referencing Him in our assignments. When teachers want to get to know you or ask for a personal response, you can talk about God. How has He changed your life? What traits and desires has God placed on your heart? Mention God when talking about yourself.
1 Corinthians 10:31
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
3. Find Peers in Faith
Wherever you go, finding those who you can share your faith with is super helpful. And what better place to do it than where you spend the majority of your day? Meet new people, build a friend group that will not lead you to sin. Avoid the gossiping and the rumors. Find someone you can share the Lord’s love with. Or maybe even share the word with someone new, tell your story, and share the light that God brings to us. Along with finding people, there’s also staying away from people. Stay away from those who aren’t encouraging to be the best version of yourself. Pray to God for discernment so that you are able to know who to keep close and who to keep at a distance. This does not mean you are to be rude or hateful, that doesn’t apply in any case. Love everyone around you!
Proverbs 13:20
"Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm."
4. Pray
Talking to God throughout school can keep your spirit strong. You can pray before school starts to set the tone for your day. Praying as you start assignments and tests can show God that although we are at school and putting in our best effort, we still lean on His strength. As mentioned in previous posts, praying is our direct communication with God. To stay connected with the Lord during school, you will need to continue talking to Him. Give thanks to God for keeping you safe at school. Pray for a clear mind so you can focus on your studies. Bring it to God.
Matthew 28:20
"and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
As you navigate the corridors of learning and growth, may these practices serve as constant companions, anchoring you to your faith throughout your school endeavors. May the connection you've nurtured with God continue to illuminate your path, offering you strength, wisdom, and a sense of purpose. Here's to acing those tests, feeling that divine high-five every step of the way, and making friendships that last forever. Wishing you all the good vibes, peaceful moments during hectic cram sessions, and a truckload of blessings as you journey through this school adventure. You got this!
