Enlightenments of Exodus

The word Exodus is defined as a mass departure. It is the perfect word that encompasses what the book of Exodus represents. Within it, details and accounts of how God delivered Israel through a mass departure from Egypt and are brought to the Promised Land using Moses as their chosen leader. Throughout the book, Israel showed their disobedience to the Lord again and again, but Moses kept faith and did everything “as the Lord commanded him” (Exodus 40:16 NIV). In this post, we wanted to share our favorite verses from Exodus!

Exodus 4:11. The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?

This was God’s response to Moses, who believed he was not good enough to lead the Lord’s chosen people. This shows that our worth and ability does not come from society or ourselves. Those qualities come from God. If God said to do it, it’s already done.

Exodus 5:2. "Pharaoh said, 'Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go.'”

This verse reminds us that we should get to know the Lord and spread that knowledge to those around us. Pharaoh was not of God and did not know Him, so he rejected and was against the Lord. Do not be like Pharaoh and open your hardened hearts to be softened by the Lord’s salvation.

Exodus 9:15-16. "For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."

This shows that God always has a reason for what He does. Whether we understand the reasoning or not, the Lord has authority over every single one of us. He raises us up for a purpose, just as he did in this verse.

Exodus 14:13-14. "Moses answered the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.'"

It can be hard to let go and let God. But it is important to do so because He doesn’t let the enemy prevail. Any harm done against you will be handled by God. Don’t try to utilize your anger/fear to take matters into your hands. Just be still.

Exodus 15:2-3. “The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him."

This is a summarization of how life is when you turn to God and start to live for Him. This verse affirms what your identity should reflect: The Lord.

Exodus 22:25. "If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest."

When you lend a hand to someone in need, like your family members or your close friends, think of this verse. Do not do it expecting something in return, rather do it out of the kindness of your heart.

Exodus 24:3. "When Moses went and told the people all the Lord’s words and laws, they responded with one voice, 'Everything the Lord has said we will do.'”

This verse is pretty straightforward. We should all do what the Lord has said we will do. Although Israel was disobedient and often did not do what God asked of them, we should still try to obey the law of the Lord.

Exodus 33:14. "The Lord replied, 'My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'"

This verse shows that we shouldn’t ever feel alone or anxious because we have our Heavenly Father to take away our worries. It’s exhausting to constantly find something to worry about or to be angry towards, so find rest in Him.

Exodus 34:6-7. "And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, 'The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin."

These verses remind us of God’s great character and the qualities He possesses. We should try to adopt these same qualities to reflect the love that the Lord has shown us. Praise the Lord for being who He is. Be thankful for the traits He has.

Exodus 34:29. "When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord."

This verse shows us how God can truly transform us once you meet with Him. Not only do our hearts and minds shift and align with the Lord’s, but we are also seen differently as we grow in our faith. It’s a beautiful transition from a worldly appearance to a heavenly one.
