The world labels the current season “Spooky Season”, with haunted house attractions, trick-or-treats, and costume parties. The Daily Bread wanted to acknowledge that while this is a period of time that is filled with scares and screams, the only fear you should hold is the fear of God.
Fearing God is not necessarily about being scared of the Lord as if He is a vengeful deity, but rather a profound reverence and awe for a higher power that represents ultimate justice, wisdom, and moral authority. This fear encourages humility and a sense of accountability for our actions. It reminds us to live in accordance with Scripture, as we believe that God is fair and just, capable of rewarding righteousness and punishing wrongdoing. The fear of God can serve as a moral compass, guiding individuals to make ethical choices, live like Jesus, and seek spiritual growth. Ultimately, it fosters a sense of purpose and responsibility in the face of the divine.
Fearing the enemy is very common among both believers and nonbelievers. However, those who have given their life to Christ should never fear the enemy. You are holy, and you are filled with the spirit of God. The Lord is Almighty and powerful, and no entity stands a chance against Him or His children. I am sure we are all guilty of walking around our house in the dark and fearing what could be hidden in that darkness. In times like this, you pray to the Lord and you ask Him to strengthen you. This time of the year can become very demonic and scary, with scary movies and activities filling every television and park but remain strong. But fear not, for God is higher than all of this and watches over you and protects you. Your voice is extremely powerful, so you should use it to cast out anything you fear is getting too close. In the name of the Father, nothing that isn’t of God isn’t welcome into your life. God is always with you, so fear not!
“The Lord is my light and salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.”
Psalm 27:1-3 NIV
