God Is Not An Aesthetic

Do you find yourself trying to find the "perfect" verse to put in your social media bios rather than finding the scripture to study for the day? Are you carrying the weight of the cross or are you simply wearing it for looks? Do you post your neatly highlighted Bible more than you study it? If you said yes to one or all of these questions, know that you are not alone. It is so common, especially for new believers, to want to portray the new lifestyle they are working towards and want to have. However, when it comes to faith, you need to truly live what your followers are seeing.
Promoting this mindset can lead to unhealthy assumptions. Many of us adopt this belief because we think God's love is conditional. If you don't post about God, you must not really believe in Him, right? Wrong! If you don't wear your jewelry with crosses, you must not be a real Christian, right? Wrong! God does not love you based on your outward appearance or presence. God sees through the mirages and sees the real image of your heart.
At the end of the day, portraying someone you are not is only fooling yourself. So rather than posting a Bible verse you saw on Instagram, pick up your Bible and read it for yourself. Of course, sharing the word with others is amazing and super important! But before you start sharing, live it for yourself and create your own testimony. Grow close to the Lord so you can then plant seeds in others. Make that "aesthetic" who you really are, and not just a persona. Love God in public, but most importantly, in private!
You aren't in your "Christian girl era". It is a real commitment, and you should be ready to finish this walk with Jesus.
