Picture this: You’re a parent and your toddler is crying and wailing. They’re screaming like you’ve committed the worst act of betrayal. Why? Because you didn’t let them walk down the stairs by themself. Because you didn’t let them put their finger in the electrical socket. Because you didn’t let them continue to hit their face with the TV remote. Shame on you for doing what’s best for your child!

This is how we act with God. While living a life on earth, we often create fantasies in our head of how we want our life to play out. “I want a husband who….” “I will have kids at….” But is this the plan that is really meant for you? Sometimes, we come across certain situations or people that we think are meant for us. We meet the “perfect man” or the “perfect woman” and then, they leave. We are left asking God why, why would He take away something that you loved so much? Something you wanted so badly?

But in these times, remember the Lord’s plan and His timing will always be perfect. If you thought this person or season was so amazing, imagine the one that our Father has in store for you. Proverbs 16:9 tells us “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps”. We must trust Him and not turn away from Him when things don’t go our way. Often times people distance themselves from God when they think He is doing bad for them. When things don’t go their way. But little do they know that alongside God, all He will bring is blessings and plans that you could not even imagine the greatness of.

By obeying God, even when things don’t go according to our plan, we can strengthen our faith by trusting in His plan. In the same way parents have to wait for their children to stop tussling and turning so they can buckle them in the car seat, God has to wait for us to stop doubting and disobeying so He can move us forward in the life He has for us. So just sit back and enjoy the ride, because it will be so much better if you just accept and allow Him to take the reins.
