Jesus Calms All Storms

Storms and hurricanes naturally occur throughout God’s earth. They come and they go. These cycles are like our lives. We experience storms of suffering, and it can be hard to keep our eyes open on Jesus when the rain keeps pouring. We wanted to retell the story that reminds us to find peace knowing that the Lord is with us during the storm…
Jesus and His disciples often found themselves within crowds of all sizes. Jesus would preach to the people with all sorts of parables and pointers. One evening, after a day speaking sermons by a lake, Jesus told His disciples to join Him, and take a boat to the other side. They slip away from the crowd. As they set out on the water, others followed on their own boats. As they were sailing, Jesus fell asleep. Soon, a mighty storm fell upon them. Boats were filling with water and the waves rocked them from side to side. There was plenty of commotion going on, and yet, Jesus was still asleep. Meanwhile, the disciples were alarmed and were full of fear. They woke up Jesus and begged Him to save them. If not, they would all surely drown! Jesus said to them,
“You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Matthew 8:26 NIV
Jesus rose and said to the winds and the waves,
“Quiet! Be still!” Mark 4:39 NIV
Jesus had rebuked the storm, and all was restful. Jesus’ disciples felt admiration towards Jesus but were shocked at His power. Who could this man be that even whirls of winds and thrashing thunderstorms stop as His command?
This beautiful story serves us as a reminder to always maintain faith, even in the times where you feel as if you’re going to drown- because you aren’t. With Jesus by your side, all is possible, and He will always keep you afloat. When we encounter rough times, many of us think we can take matters into our own hands and end up pushing the Lord away in the process. This is the opposite of what you want to do! Bring the Lord closer and closer as you go through the ups and downs of life. You’ll soon begin to see tidal waves turn into motionless water, and storms turn into clear skies. God calls all of us to love Him and lay our problems into His hands. Struggling with sin? Don’t turn away from Him in shame.
"On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” ' Mark 2:17 NIV
Stuck on a relationship you know is bad for you and your faith? Leave it up to God! Let it go. If only He knows the plan of your life, don’t you think He should be the one holding your hand on the way, the one you should be leaning on? The Lord is our shepherd, our guidance, and our light. Put all your trust into Him… He will never disappoint. God can only lead us to somewhere good!
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
