Easter is often symbolized with egg hunts, bunnies, and the season of spring. While it is a beautiful day to spend time with our loved ones, we encourage you to bring honor to our Lord and Savior. Think about the importance today holds. Remember His resurrection, for He has risen!
Jesus was not what the people envisioned when they thought of the Messiah. They collectively assumed their savior would be a bold and loud warrior, quite the opposite of our humble and gentle Jesus. When Jesus began claiming Himself as the Messiah, He was persecuted for His seemingly blasphemous actions. After going through trial, He was ordered to pick up His cross, carry all of its weight to the location of the crucifixion, and endure all of the physical and verbal torture that was present from start to finish. Jesus was nailed to the cross, where He wore a crown of thorns, an action of mockery done by those who hated Him. After time passed, Jesus was still there, bleeding out and crying to Our Father. Many think that because Jesus is God, He was able to go through this with no pain. Jesus was a human. He felt the pain, but because He loved us, He followed through and secured our salvation. After being taken to a tomb, all of His disciples and followers mourned Him. Three days later, on an early Sunday, His tomb was found empty by a woman named Mary and Mary Magdalene. An angel appeared and told them not to worry and to not be afraid, because Jesus had risen. The ladies left to go tell the disciples, and Jesus met with them and showed them His pierced palms to show that it is truly Him. He truly is the Messiah!
So, what is the importance of this today? Well, like Jesus, we are all human. But unlike Jesus, we all sin. Every day we sin, even if we don’t realize it. We are lazy, we lie, we gossip, and so much more. And because we are sinners, we all deserve hell, right? Yes – but God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die on that cross. He was tortured and humiliated by many, yet He endured because He was dying for us. That day, he fulfilled the law and gave all of us sinners a chance of making it to the kingdom just by believing. And when He resurrected three days later, it gave us proof of the power our Lord holds and validated everything Jesus said while He roamed the earth. So when you are celebrating Easter, just remember our Savior and His empty tomb!
