The Daily Bread has been in the Bible (you should be too!). The current reads are the books of Proverbs and Psalms. These two are filled with poetic insight on how to live for God and what it is like to do so. With these books being next-door neighbors, we wanted to share Verses that have stuck out to us.
Proverbs
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit you him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Our plans and our knowledge could never compare to what the Lord has in store for us. We must deliver our lives to him and set all our worries and problems in his hands, for He is the one that will set you on the correct path of righteousness. Do not force your plans or try to make things work, because they never will. Let God handle it.
Proverbs 3:25-26 “Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and keep your foot from being snared.”
Once again, we must set any worries we have in the hands of God. We must not be afraid, for He is always next to us being our guiding light. Anything that comes along and threatens you or scares you, don’t fear. Pray to God for protection and guidance, and He will provide in due time.
Proverbs 11:4 “Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.”
When Jesus comes back for His believers, all you had on earth will not matter. Do not waste your time on things of the world, on materialistic things, or anything that may be consuming you. Spend your days building your relationship with God and spreading His word, because in the end times, that is all that will matter.
Proverbs 11:21 “Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished, but those who are righteous will go free”
Everyone will get what they deserve in due time. Is someone disturbing your peace? What about all those people who do evil in the world? Do not worry, and do not seek vengeance. God will handle it and punish those in the ways they deserve. But those who are good, do good, and spread good will also get what the deserve, just be patient.
Proverbs 12:15 “The ways of fool seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.”
Being stubborn is an incredibly common characteristic in humans. We insist we are always right, and hate being corrected. but these are the ways of a fool. We must be open to correction, as it makes us wiser and knowledgeable. surround yourself with the wise and take advice from them.
Psalms
Psalm 1:6 “For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.”
The righteous are the blessed! Imagine we are trees. The godly have deep and firm roots in the Lord so that they cannot be shaken down when rough weather comes. Along with vibrant leaves and branches that will produce fruit when the season comes, they have a never ending source of water and the Word flowing through them. Be a blessed tree rather than a wicked withering plant.
Psalm 4:2 “How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?”
Being delusional is a quirky trend nowadays, but we really should avoid falling for deception and participating in idolatry. Remember that false gods are not just gods of false religions. You can idolize an object, a person, and anything that isn't God.
Psalm 8:4 “ What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”
God created everything on our earth. The mountains, the Seas, and us. When we think of the size of our world, we realize how tiny one person seems. And yet God treats that one person as if they were His most prized possession. Admire God how He admires us!
Psalm 14:1 “ The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’”.
Denying God’s existence does not make him disappear. Many people will say there is no God when they did not try to seek Him. Those who have faith know that when you seek Him out, you will find Him, because He was never hiding!
Psalm 37:10 “ A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.”
In modern times, the leaders of our nations and of our societies are rooted in evil. When it looks like the wicked are succeeding, wait on God and trust in His timing. God looks at things long term, and while they may be flourishing one day, the Lord is laughing at those who are evil because He knows what is coming for them. There is no future for evil. With all that is going on, choose wisdom over worry.
